Welcome to my blog!

I’m going to go ahead and kick off this blog with a confession: I’ve never ever (no, not even once) written a blog.  This is the very first one.  Over the past several years, I have become a regular blog reader, and I’ve even considered starting my own blog before.  But then I always thought: who is going to read what I have to say anyway?  And what have I to say that could really help or interest someone else?  Yes, I have many interests like dancing, cooking, and couponing.  But when it comes to describing how I spend the majority of my time, I always end up talking about school.

Blah, school.  Isn’t that boring?  Well, sometimes, yes.  But most of the time, I rather enjoy it.  You might think that sounds crazy, but you have to understand that I’m not just talking about any ol’ program of study.  (You know, those miserable I-hate-my-life-because-these-classes-have-absolutely-nothing-to-do-with-anything-I-will-ever-do-with-my-future kinds of programs.)  Not at all.  I’m talking about physician assistant school: the program that has everything to do with what I want to do with my future!

Recently, I was hanging out with some of my classmates at our favorite frozen yogurt joint and one of them pointed out that even though we all want to forget about school when we are off campus, it will inevitably work its way into our conversations no matter what just because it is such a big part of our lives right now.  She was right!  As much as I hate to admit it sometimes, there is just no way around thinking about classes or labs or assignments or studying.  But I suppose that isn’t always such a bad thing.  I truly enjoy what I am learning, both in class and out.  And I’m sure I’m not the only one.  So, this blog will be about my journey through the rest of my training.

As for the title of this blog, I have decided to name it after the mantra taught to my class upon matriculation.  (I have heard that it can also be modified to apply to any undesirable clinical rotations in the second year of school, also: “You can do anything for 4 weeks, 8 weeks, etc.”)  While I really love being in PA school and learning about topics that are interesting to me, there are always those times when I need to stop what I’m doing, take a deep breath, and repeat the mantra.  Like when there are 5 exams in a week and a half.  And then another set of 5 exams in a week’s time only a month later.  Or when, in addition to those 5 exams, there are multiple assignments including a group project where nobody’s on the same page.  Or when I get homesick and all I want to do is jump in the car and brave a 6-hour drive to be with my family.  “You can do anything for 27 months.”.  After repeating that a few times, I usually realize that in light of the rest of my life, 27 months is certainly manageable and can even be delightful when I keep up a good attitude.

On that note, I hope you all enjoy staying up-to-date on my adventures through PA school.  There are 552 days until I officially complete the program…let’s see what kind of neat experiences there are to have between now and then!!
